Private Egyptologist tour guide in Alexandria to visit.

Esh-Shugafa

On a hill near the Sarapeion remains is the entrance to Kom esh-Shugafa, the biggest and most significant Roman burialsite in Egypt.
1900’s Egyptian-Roman tomb was unearthed.

Column Pompey
Desolate slope of ruins with Pompey’s column offers no clue that the great Sarapeion ever existed here.

Under the Ptolemies it was the major temple of Alexandria, but it was demolished by Emperor Theodosius in 391 A.D. the column carries a Corinthian capital, was carved in red granite, and rises to little under 87 feet (27 M).

Fort Qaitbey
On the old island of Pharos, where the lighthouse previously stood, lies Sultan Qait Bey’s castle.

Two earthquakes in 1303 and 1326 took down the ancient lighthouse, and its materials were utilised to create this castle (about 1480). Its strategic location might safeguard East Harbor from assault.

After a seafood lunch, you’ll explore the famed.

Alexandria Library
The library has a copy of every book ever written, making it an excellent literary site. The library has Egypt-related exhibits and rare antique literature.
